Importance of Sports on Teenagers

Sports are an essential part of my life since I can remember. My passion for sports is what has kept me focused on who I want to become and where I want to go. Luckly for me and for the many teenagers who love sports, there are many scientific reasons to understand why sports are beneficial for teenagers, let’s review some facts:

Weight Control

According to studies, more than 30 percent of American teens are overweight or at risk of being overweight, which can lead to health complications including diabetes and asthma, along with mental health. But, sports help teenagers maintain a healthier weight and boost their cardiovascular system, lower their blood pressure, improve their mood and help them make healthier choices in life.

Self-Esteem Boost

Sports help teen girls to perform well in school, develop a positive self-image and reduce their risk of developing an eating disorder. Because of this greater physical awareness, sports participation will improve teen’s appearance from the inside out.

Learn Life Skills

Playing a sport teaches teenagers many valuable life skills including leadership, the value of teamwork and cooperation. Athletic teens also learn how to handle stress and pressure, set goals and work hard to reach a goal. Playing a sport allows teenagers to build relationships with their coaches and peers. All of these experiences will help teenagers to develop skills that they will appreciate throughout their life.

Lifestyle Habits

Through sports, drinking habits, drug abuse and violent behaviors decrease in athletics according to studies. Sports help teenagers to have a more active life, thus reducing their risk of obesity, diabetes and other serious health complications.

Sports affect teens mentally, socially and psychologically! I Read a study that said that teens that play sports are happier, feel healthier and are more fulfilled by life, and that is how I feel!
